Biography


1967-1990
Alexia, or Alessia Aquilani which is her real name, was born on the 19th of May 1967 in La Spezia, Italy.

Already as a child she competed in several singing contests. A few years later, when she was in her teens, she joined a popular musical group in her hometown called "I Ragazzi Di Migliarina". She stayed with the group for several years. She also got her first stage experience with this group.

In 1985, the year she turned 18 and her last year in high school, she dedicated herself to singing again, as soon as she was free from her school exams. Later that year she was invited to join a band which worked in discos. This was the start of her professional career. She studied music and opera singing, and she got more and more interested in Italian discos.

She formed a group called "Brother Machine", and in that period she started visiting some important recording studios.

1991-1994
She met Robyx (Robert Zanetti) and in 1991 she became the vocalist of
Ice MC, which was a big turning point for her.

With this group she toured all around the world and they had several big international hits, including "Think About the Way", "It's a Rainy Day" and
"Take Away the Colour".

1995-1997
In 1995 there was a conflict between the Ice MC rapper Ian Campbell and Robyx and the Ice MC project moved to another record company. But Alexia stayed at Robyx Productions, and she began composing her own songs. In the end of summer 1995, after a lot of hard work, her first single "Me and You", produced by Robyx, was released. This single was a big success, which proved that she could write great songs, by herself.

Two more singles followed, "Summer is Crazy" and "Number One" and in April 1997 she released "Uh La La La" and
in May she released her debute album called "Fan Club". The album has received 2 Platinum Records in Finland,
2 Gold Records in Brazil and 1 Silver Record in France.

One of her greatest wishes is to interpret melodic songs, like those by Whitney Houston. Some of her favourite artists is Warren G., TLC, Jamiroquai and Jovanotti. She also likes those old rock/pop groups such as Deep Purple and Queen.

In her spare time she loves to watch her favourite films over and over again, her favourite actors are Whoopy Goldberg and Robert De Niro. She also like aerobics, jogging and body building. She is also very fond of oriental food, especially Chinese- and Thaifood. But she thinks the Italian cooking is the best in the world, she is for example crazy about Pizza!!

Her favourite color is sea-water green. Her favourite clothes are track suits and here favourite shoes are caterpillar boots and Nikes. She also adores cats, she got three herself (Chicca, Vicky and Mina). Someday she would like to have a big family, and she loves children and she would like to adopt a foreign child, because she is a good-hearted, sensitive and sensible girl. She gets her inspiration from her life and feelings, which makes her songs more real. She also loves to stay awake during the night, writing songs.

In late 1997 the single "Virtual Reality" was released.

Alexia's album was released in the US under the name "Fun Club" and it was recieved very well over there!

Miami was the first U.S. market to "break" Alexia, leading the way for this major international pop star as she cracks the American pop radio market.

1998
In the end of March 1998 Alexia released "Gimme Love" which is an R'n'B inspired song!

In the beginning of June 1998 Alexia's second album "The Party" was released in Europe. The album contains 14 tracks in different styles, for example R&B, Pop, Eurodance.

Also in June 1998 the second single "This Music I Like", from the second album was released and it's was a fast dancetrack with a strong melodic atmosphere.

In December 1998, Alexia released a single called "Keep On Movin'".

Some time in 1998 a remix album was released.

1999
Alexia's "Uh la la la" was released on May 25, 1999 in the USA.

Alexia released a single is called "Goodbye" in the end of the summer 1999.

The album "Happy" was released in the end of August, 1999.

The remixes of "Goodbye" was released in the end of September 1999.

The japanese version of "The Party" entitled "Uh La La La" was released on August 4th 1999.

Alexia 2002

2000
On May 25, 2000 the single "Ti Amo Ti Amo" was released and on June 6th, 2000 the greatest hits album entitled "The Hits", featuring the biggest hits from Alexia and also a track from the single "Ti Amo Ti Amo, was released.

After the release of "The Hits", Alexia left her producer Robyx. She says that she came to the moment where she wanted to show her complete talent.

On October 19th, 2000 the single "Non Ti Dimenticherò" featuring Gianni Morandi was released in Italy and only in Italy.

2001
Then single "Money Honey" was released in May.

Alexia's 4th album (the remix-albums not included) "Mad For Music" was released in Italy on June 25th and was released in other countries on September 10th.

Alexia released the single "Summerlovers" on October 28th.

2002
Alexia released an italian album, 9 out of the 10 tracks are sung in italian, the album was released on March 6th.

The first single from the album was called "Dimmi Come..." and was released on March 8th.

On June 24 she released another single in Italy, called "Non Lasciarmi Mai".

Alexia released an english verion of the album "Alexia" on August 24th.

The single "Don't You Know (Dimmi Come)" was released in July.

2003
In March Alexia released the single "Per Dire Di No" and the album "Il Cuore A Modo Mio"
was released in Italy on March 7th.

Alexia released the single in Italy on May 15th entitled "Egoista".

2004
Alexia released the single "Come Tu Mi Vuoi (You Need Love)" on June 1st.

The album entitled "Gli Occhi Grandi Della Luna" was released on July 5th.

2005
Alexia released the album and single, both entitled "Da Grande", on March 14th in Italy. There are also 2 other singles, "Mai Dire Mai" and "Une Donna Sola", which have apparently been released, but only on radio, not as singles.

Alexia will become a mother in 2007.
