Pharao was one of Germany's most successful dance act. Their debut
single, I Show You Secrets, rocketed them to the top of the German Charts
within weeks. This sensational success on the disco scene took them to Number One
in every Dance Chart around, earning them the title of "Gods Of The Dance Temple" along
the way. (And European sales were so good that they made the Top Ten in several other
countries and Top Twenty in Music & Media's Eurochart too!)
The charismatic duo comprising of the exotic, 24-year-old singer Kyra
Pharao (who is half Indian ), and the 26-year-old American rapper Deon
Blue, received a Gold Award to mark the phenomenal sales of their
first hit.
The singles There Is A Star and World of Magic also became huge successes.
In November 1994, Pharao's debut album, simply entitled Pharao was released.
This superb album contains 13 mysterious hits, for which the "Gods Of The Dance Temple"
seem to have pulled every register. Each track is a combination of relentless groove and
irresistible melody, and the result is, quite simply, a truly great modern
dance album.
Much of the credit for that great album goes to a young producer duo, Alexander Hawking
and DJ Stevie Steve, who spent the best part of three months
entombed in the crypts of their pharaonic studios before finally emerging with
a definitive work: exciting mixes, state-of-the-art sounds, dynamic beat and
excellent hook lines.
Dean's powerful rap (and that python wrapped around his bare chest!) sends
shivers down a thousand girly spines; Kyra's warm, erotic voice draws her
listeners into a deep, mystical trance; and then, while Michelle and
Yvonne, the two futuristic techno dancers, weave seductively in their gold
metal outfits, gladiator drummer Jonny drums the whole place into a frenzy
while belly-dancer Jasmin performs her wondrous dance - and suddenly the mummy
itself appears, to be brought back to life in a final, breathtaking, Robot
Dance finale!
1997
Finally after almost two years of silence from Pharao they are back with a new breathtaking
single called Temple of Love, a great new track in real Pharao style. The producers are
still the same great team: DJ Stevie Steve and Alexander Hawking. Unfortunally
the rapper Deon Blue have left the group. Last but not least, the snake "Petit" (The Little),
a 3 meter long Python, which is Kyra's pet is also back...
On December 1st, 1997 the single "Once Upon a Time" was released and it's a europop song with superb
vocals by Kyra.
1998
Finally after more than 3 years since the first album was released the second album "The Return"
was released in
January 1998. It contains 14 new songs and it's delightful mix of europop and the already
well known Pharao style!
It's a must for all Pharao fans...
2001
Pharao is no longer under contract with Sony and according to
Media Agency, Pharao no longer exists.
